Construction Site Waste Management Plans Training
It's the law!
Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP) for construction projects over £300,000 became a legal requirement in April 2008.
Plans must be in place before construction work begins. Legal responsibility is shared between clients and principal contractors.
Duty of Care for waste management is at the core of SWMP but there is now the additional requirement for detailed forward planning, recording of waste disposals and reconciling actual performance with plans. The drivers for this legislation are:
- shortage of landfill capacity
- construction is the major waste creator
- flytipping is on the increase
- significant financial benefits should accrue from use of SWMP
