Course on Risk Assessment
Reduce Risk and Provide a Safe Working Environment
Why do we need to assess risks? Companies are obliged by law to provide a safe working environment. They are responsible for the health and safety of their workers – and their customers, as well as the general public.
Companies must take precautions to ensure, as far as possible, that accidents do not happen. and so they need to identify potential problems.
Consider the potential for anything going wrong
It is not that difficult. A risk assessment is really just about looking at where you work and how you work and consider the potential for anything going wrong. Then, you must put in place measures to eliminate or, at least, minimise any risks. Remember, too, that people can be under stress because of things unseen as well as seen.
It’s very important not to skimp on this exercise. Accidents and ill health can be costly. Staff turnover is likely to increase if people feel they are under stress and/or unsafe. Damage to equipment can be equally costly, especially if output is lost.
In case there is any confusion, a risk is the likelihood of something bad happening. A hazard is the thing that is likely to cause that to happen. For example, your workers have to move heavy objects that they may well drop. If they are wearing soft shoes, they are likely to suffer damage to their feet if the object lands on them. Boots with steel toe-caps will minimise damage.
You must comply to legislation
There can be serious consequences if you do not comply with Health and Safety legislation. At best your insurance costs will increase. At worst, you could face legal proceedings or even jail.
Minimise your risk by taking our Risk Assessment Course.
