The Cost of Fire
Financial costs of fire (2007) - in England and Wales - were reported to be around £7 billion for England and Wales. Yes, that’s £7,000,000,000. Bit of a scary thought, isn’t it? Costs cover 3 main areas:
- £2.8bn on prevention.
- £1.7bn fire and other emergency services.
- £2.5bn consequences of fire eg death and injury, property damage and lost business.
Approximately 80% of companies damaged by fire never recover. Can you afford to be one of them? Definitely not if you are not insured.
"Fire, it won't happen to me!"
Think again, according to British Standards Institution
- A fire breaks out every minute (that means over 10,000 fires everyday).
- Every day there are over 47 fire related injuries.
- At least 11 people die every week because of fire.
New Legislation
New legislation (the Fire Safety Order - FSO) has replaced the provisions of the Fire Precautions Act in England and Wales. Every business must have a documented Fire Risk Assessment and it must be completed by a competent person/company. Many insurance companies demand this before they will validate your insurance policies.
If you do not have an up-to-date fire risk assessment, you need one! Without it, your company will not be compliant with current regulations. So - you may not be insured against asset loss – or any other loss you might incur.
